A lot of times we’ll get one (heavy rain) at 3 o’clock in the afternoon and it will dump an inch and a half of rain, we’ll have puddles on the greens, and they’ll want to get back out there as quick as they can. We can actually, by turning on that vacuum system, remove that water so they can get back out there and not damage the greens walking through spongy, wet areas.

We’ve had a lot of rain this summer and when the storm sewer would allow it I would run it pretty much in vacuum mode to flush the water out after a heavy rain to keep the water moving and to get the air back in the soil and get the excess moisture out. Even if there is a little rain on the day of the game. I will use it just to dry up the turf as much as I can.

There is a lack of air movement due to the enclosed design of Red Bull Arena so we experience a variety of turf problems such as: prolonged leaf wetness, inadequate air mixing/circulation, increased disease pressure and excessive summer heating/”baking”. We now also utilize the fans in conjunction with our grow lights. My expectations were met from the fans. We have been able to move around more air than we did in the past and the overall turf quality shows.

The biggest advantage of PCD is it’s very non-intrusive to the greens. For clubs that have a large amount of play, disruption is an absolute minimum. We literally took out a hex-plug and put the vibratory plow in. Probably the most work was to dig up the 4 inch pipe to tie in the PCD.

The 2 fans we purchased were a life saver. These 2 particular greens have really made a strong turnaround in less than 30 days. Thanks for getting them out to us so promptly again. Our Board of Directors have also taken notice and have requested to add the 3 remaining greens for next year. We have come a long ways since the days of where I had to convince 500 members and the Board that this was a good investment. If we pick up another 3 fans, all 18 greens will have them. Im ecstatic to say the least, knowing I will be able to stress a lot less and enjoy my family a little more next summer.
